DescriptionTag: "Ceremonial mask, Pende people of Zaire, carved wood, raffia, cloth braided fiber, Gift of Dr. Irving Welfield, Washington, DC, 1991"; Orange painted mask of carved wood with white carved triangle motifs on either cheek, dark eyebrows, and incised white lines on forehead; woven plant fiber is sewn to chin with dark plant fiber; top of mask has dark cloth horns; one on either side and one in front and one in back; twisted purple and blue wire has seen been attached to the back of the mask via screwed nooks for hanging
